New book: Political philosophy of Foucault

The Political Philosophy of Michel Foucault

About the Book
This book is the first to systematically reconstruct Michel Foucault’s political and philosophical thought across his career. It argues, in the areas of epistemology, power, subjectivity, resistance, politics, and ethics, that Foucault’s work represents the articulation of a consistent and progressive philosophical and political viewpoint. The work is thus an important intervention into the field of Foucault studies, where many continue to claim that Foucault’s work is contradictory, nonsensical, or nihilistic.

  1. sheesh…thats R956.52 (south african rands) without postage. I think i wait for someone to make a pdf

  2. ‘progressive’?

Hopefully not in the sense of that word that is typically used today.

  3. I note that some nefarious individual has posted a torrent of the book on the Pirate Bay:

If you can’t afford to buy it, I would suggest downloading it.

These Routledge Research editions are aimed at sales to research libraries not to individuals in any case. On this note though, if you’re affiliated to a university, you could request that the library purchase it.

  4. Depending on the publisher, authors can sometimes insist on a simultaneous paperback edition to alleviate this problem. When Stuart and I were doing our book, we asked our publisher, Ashgate, if they would do this and they very readily agreed. (The paperback is no snip however, at a listed price of $39).

It was a first for Ashgate, and they have since told us that the book did well enough that they are using it as a financial model for other books, so I feel we achieved something, however small!
