Where did Foucault say:

“…the existence of madness as experienced by the sane or reasonable subject”

As cited by Colin Gordon. It was somewhere in Histoire de la Folie. Enquiring minds want to know.

  1. Answer: nowhere. The words in quotes were not a citation from Foucault’s text, just my own paraphrase of the sense in which I think Foucault usually uses the term ‘experience’ in this book.
