Notes on biopower and biopolitics

Jodi at I cite has begun a series of posts about biopolitics and biopower for a paper and a class she is going to teach.

The thematic of the course, and of the paper to a degree, is set by two remarks, Foucault’s (cited by Agamben) that “modern man is an animal whose politics places his existence as a living being in question” and Zizek’s “biopolitics is postpolitics.”

There are three posts so far (latest here), which summarize Foucault’s important (if overlooked) last section of History of Sexuality and the Birth of Biopolitics lectures.
